The four patterns diagnostic

Which pattern is your organisation in?

Most leadership development is caught in one of four patterns. Eight questions, about two minutes, and you get a profile across all four rather than a single verdict.

No score is good or bad. The point is to see the shape.

The Manager Gap

Development happens in a bubble, disconnected from the work where it is supposed to show up. Your programmes may be well designed and it will not save them.

What to do first

Give managers one thing to do rather than a coaching curriculum. A single observable behaviour to watch for and one conversation a fortnight.

One more thing

Your two highest patterns are close together, which is common. Most organisations sit in more than one at the same time, and they compound: a measurement void makes the content treadmill harder to stop, because nothing tells you the last thing did not work.

The thing worth knowing

None of these patterns are a failure of effort or intention. They are the predictable result of designing development around information transfer rather than skill. The problem is not intention. The problem is method.

A note on what this is. This is a self-report indicator designed to start a conversation, not a validated psychometric instrument. The developmental assessments I use in client work are a different thing entirely: they measure the structure of a person's reasoning against decades of calibrated research. This measures what you think is happening in your organisation, which is useful, and is not the same thing.
